The Council of Europe describes VAW "as a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination against women" and defines VAW as "all acts of gender-based violence that result in, or are likely to result in, physical, sexual, psychological or economic harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.
This issue is not new to us because this has been happening since then and now. Violence is a serious case that we must all put an end because as time goes by, this will be worst and it would be harder for us to cure this problem of our society. This can cause a lot of problems to oneself, it does not only affect women's physical and reproductive health, but specially their mental and emotional state. It has caused women to feel ashamed and lose their self-esteem. It threatens women's personal security.
Inorder to stop this, we must start from ourselves because a vaw free community starts with oneself. If you can't do it, do not expect the others to do so.
"If we are to fight discrimination and injustice against women we must start from the home for if a woman cannot be safe in her own house then she cannot be expected to feel safe anywhere." -Aysha Taryam
